About
If you are living with shoulder, spine, or headache pain, you have probably noticed that the question changes over time. The worry in the first week is not the worry in the second year.
Pain changes, and so does the question
Situations evolve, and each stage carries its own concerns. A page that treats a stiff shoulder or a daily headache as one fixed problem leaves out the part you most need, which is what usually comes next and what to do about it.
That is why we organize our writing by stage. For each condition we ask where a reader probably is on the timeline, what would signal the next step, and what to ask a clinician before taking it.
Subjects followed over months
We cover stage-by-stage expectations, warning signs of change, and planning ahead for what comes next. The subjects are shoulder pain, spinal compression fractures, and migraine and other headaches. Each condition comes with one question to take to an appointment.
How long things last, and who says so
We take our timelines from published guidance and documented cases. Whenever we say how long something lasts or what a condition is, we name the publisher in the same sentence. If a point has no named publisher, treat it as a question for your clinician.
Planning past the next fix
We think a long view should plan past the next fix. That means comparing options plainly and setting out evidence in order so you can decide for yourself. Nothing here is a diagnosis, and treatment decisions belong to the clinicians who examine you.
Clifton as the starting point
Clifton comes up in these pages only when it changes the practical advice. For local information beyond pain, Clifton's official website is the place to start, and the state health department publishes public health information for residents.
Articles still to come
We add new conditions one stage-by-stage walk-through at a time. Each reader's situation is different, so use the questions as a starting point for your own appointment. For wider background on pain topics, a general pain management resource is a reasonable companion to these pages.
